Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. She created Feminist Frequency which is a website which features video and posts discussing the depictions of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. She is the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit website that explores representations of women within popular culture narratives. In her efforts to dispel the myths of women that have been portrayed in popular culture, she works to highlight issues related to the targeted harassment of women and other marginalized classes of individuals in the internet space. A graduate in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaking engagement and has given speech at the TEDxWomen Festival and The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated with gender issues and feminist thought. While still at school in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency Website. In 2009, the ambitious young woman was targeted online for launching a website featuring a series about gender and videogames. It was not enough to halt her. It actually strengthened her commitment to being a feminist and a media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards for her numerous prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning journalist. She also serves as the director and founder of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organisation that studies pop culture gender representations.
